Our approach

Building provisions for growth and development

Our vision

That all young people belong to a learning community

Our mission

To enable young people to reconnect to learning through building positive working relationships with trusted adults

To support young people to access learning that will enable them to make positive choices in their life

To work with others to ensure that small steps of change add up to transformations

3 key steps to our provisions

01.

Mentoring programmes designed around individuals

Prior to beginning provisions we work with other agencies and professionals to create a structured programme, emphasising wellbeing, development and learning targets.

02.

Matched with a team of skilled mentors

Each student works with a specific team of trusted adults who deliver their programme and support the young person through any aspects of their provision that are delivered by outside agencies.

03.

Daily review and monitoring

Our mentoring programmes include daily review and reflection alongside the young person and parents/carers. Mentors complete both formal and informal feedback to ensure that everyone is clear on the progress being made.

Wellbeing

While different for every child and focussed around specific areas of need, our mentoring programmes all have an additional core intent of building student’s resilience and self-esteem, as well as developing a range of strategies that will empower the young person to engage and achieve; our programmes are built around life-long skills, not quick or temporary fixes.

The welfare of students and staff is the top priority for B2 Mentoring. We have a range of policies in place to ensure this. To find out more about some of our key practices, please see the policies below.

Our Safeguarding policy details the processes and practices used to ensure the safety of all

Community

B2 Mentoring is committed to the National TOMs (Themes, Outcomes and Monitoring) framework for measuring social value.

01

More local people in employment

Belong 2 works with experienced and skilled mentors from the areas local to the students we are commissioned to work with. B2 Mentoring prides itself on working within the community, not just in the community. Our young people are often ‘excluded’ from school, and so excluded from their direct community. We take opportunities to interact with and support local businesses, whilst in turn looking to them for support in specific areas such as work experience. To rebuild and restore these young people to become part of a community requires mentors who themselves can be part of the local community, who can interact and model the ways of being that are expected from a person who is part of a community.

02

Equality, diversity and inclusion for all we work with

The Company is committed to promoting equal opportunities in employment and ensuring all are treated with dignity whilst at work.
Not only do we work with young people who may have been impacted upon by negative perceptions and may have additional mental health needs, but our work provides the opportunity to teach the values of inclusivity and equality directly, ensuring that our staff take every opportunity to correct and elaborate where a young person’s behaviour or attitudes may not reach the high standards or society and our company. In order to do this, we aim to make equality and inclusivity an explicit feature of all training sessions.

03

removing the stigma around mental health

Our work generally involves young people with an Educational Health and Care Plan detailing specific Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs experienced by that student. With a diverse range of needs, including ADHD, ASD and PDA, ensuring that our staff have the latest understandings of how best to support and work with these needs is of utmost importance; this makes education and training for staff a crucial part of our work. We aim to provide the latest updates, alongside tried and tested approaches to supporting Mental Health challenges. Our work relies upon working within the community, and so there is a further outreach aspect.
